Slava at St. Sava

Serbian Cultural and Arts Center Saint Sava invites you to celebrate its feast day (slava) Saint Sava on Saturday, January 26 at the Center at 448 W. Barry, Chicago, IL 60657. The kolach ceremony will be at 6:00 p.m; Father Cedomir Kostich will do the cutting of the kolach.

There will be a recital by the Children’s Theater and other guest children at 6:30 p.m. Slava banquet starts at 7:30 p.m. Sasa Kusevic will entertain the guests.

Vallet parking is available for the first 30 cars.

Everybody is welcome. Your donations are greatly appreciated — they will help the Center continue its mission in preserving Serbian heritage, language and culture.

Farewell to Kosta Kilibarda

On Saturday December 22 2007 at 7 PM at the SCAC St. Sava, we are planning to host a Farewell to Kosta Kilibarda, renowned artist from Herceg Novi. We will host an art exhibition of sculptures by Kosta Kilibarda, icons by Vlatko Bjelica and sculptures by our own local master Boban Ilić. We are also preparing a program for our guests: the legendary gusle player Boško Vujačić will perform many songs from his great repertoire. The guests will be able to interact with the artists, and bid farewell to our dear friend Kosta Kilibarda before he returns to the Motherland.

Hors d’oeurves will be served. Admission is free. Donations to the Center are always appreciated.

Ethno Night at St. Sava

On December 15th, 2007 at 7:00 PM

On Saturday December 15 2007 at 7 PM at the SCAC St. Sava, we are planning to host an Ethno Night — an art exhibition of sculptures by Kosta Kilibarda from Herceg Novi and Boban Ilić from Chicago. The painter Vlatko Bjelica will present his new series of icons. You will also be able to see an interesting exhibition of original gusle. Our guest of the evening — folk guslar Đorđe Koprivica — will perform his hour-long program. The guests will be able to interact with the artists, and will hear recitals of epic poems, toasts and folk tales.

At the Cave, starting at 9 PM, the guest will be able to hear ethno jazz. Goran Ivanović and his Eastern Block Band will play until midnight. Hors d’oeurves will be served.

A donation of $10 will benefit the Center and its upkeeping.
