Once Upon a Time

Cast Members

The play is a story about the life of a twenty-seven year old woman Ana, in Belgrade. It takes place during the embargo, restrictions, shortages, demonstrations and bombing. The story is a collage of moments from different scenes from Ana’s life. Some of those scenes are humorous, some sad, but through them all, Ana’s spirit remains strong, vibrant and positive. Ana, as a protagonist of the story, is a metaphor for the way the young women from Belgrade used to think and behave during those trying times. Three actresses portray the same main character, with the idea that any one of us could have been one of the those three. The themes that the story deals with relate to many social phenomena of the times: improvised boutiques, drug problem, tough guys, poverty, restrictions and the feeling of hopelessness of the every-day life.

Performed by the Serbian Theater “Mira Sremčević”. Price of admission is $15.00. Valet parking is available for the first 30 cars.
