The Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava would like to cordially invite you to join us on Saturday, October 18 of 2008 at 6:00 in the evening for a gala event to help us raise funds for the establishment and construction of the St. Sava Art Gallery. We would like to transform the auxiliary building behind the Center into a state-of-the-art gallery which would include an open art studio and art school, where our children and others interested in art could enjoy various art programs. With the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Art Gallery complete, our goal will be to host an annual Art Colony St. Sava at the Center each September, where we would host Serbian artists from all over the world.

The host of our evening will be renowned Serbian artist, Boban Ilić, who will donate one sculpture and two paintings to be auctioned off during the gala. A cocktail reception will begin the evening, followed by a concert of classical music and a formal dinner.

Each guest is asked to reserve their place for our gala dinner with a contribution of $150. If you can not attend, we ask that you please consider donating instead. The funds collected from this evening will help us realize our stated goal of creating the St. Sava Art Gallery. Formal attire will be required.

On Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 6 PM, the Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava will present the Children’s Colorful Collage, a program for children. The program is directed by Jelena Nešić, and will be hosted by Nada Jovanović.

Starring: Milica Pavićević (5 years old), Aleksandra Gallagher (6), Sofija Marčić (7), Nikola Vuk Karagić (7), Natalija Karagić (9), Petar Veljković (9), Marko Pavićević (9), Isidora Jovanović (9), Elena Kovačević (10) and Đorđe Kovačević (11).

There are two plays on the repertoire: “Scarecrow” and “Happy Marriage”.

Musical entertainment is provided by the talented brothers Aleksandar Siarris (11) and Filip Pećanac (6), who will perform musical compositions on violin and cello.

Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

On Friday, October 3rd, we will be hosting our monthly party at The Cave, the lower level of the Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava! As always, the entertainment starts at 10 PM. Enjoy an evening of Serbian music, good friends, and great fun. Admission is free.

Because parking is limited to 25 cars at the Center, we recommend three things:

1. Use the El: the nearest Red and Brown Line stops are located at Belmont Avenue
2. Use the local bus routes: routes 22, 36, 76, 77, 146, and 151 all stop in close proximity to the Center
3. Park at a nearby parking garage: several garages are located near the center; the closest (and most recommended) is Interial Parking at 3115 N. Broadway Ave.

Serbian Theater “Mira Sremčević” invites you to the Theater on the Terrace on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 8 PM at the Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava. Spend a lovely evening on the terrace of our Center, enjoying champaign and hors d’oeuvres during an entertaining theater program and dinner afterwards.

On August 2, 2008 at 8PM, the Serbian Theater Mira Sremčević will perform the play Stardust by Dušan Kovačević.

Starring: Miša Petković, Danijela Šapić, Igor Obradović, Vesna Noble, Sanja Popov i Vlada Vujić.
Directed by Ankica Ratarac.

The price of admission is $15. Let us socialize after the play! Valet parking is available for the first 30 or so cars.

And encore performance will take place on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 4PM. The price of admission is $15.

Because of the limited number of parking spots at the Center, we recommend the following: (i) come by subway: Red, Brown and Purple line stop at Belmont, about 10 minutes by foot from the Center; (ii) come by bus: bus lines 8, 22, 36, 77, 145, 146, 151, 156, stop in a close proximity to the Center; (iii) come by car and park at a nearby public parking: there are three public parkings on Broadway St., right at the corner of Broadway and Berry, a minute or two from the Center by foot. There is another public parking on Sheridan St. near the intersection with Diversey (in the evening it costs $15-20).

Eastern Blok, formerly known as The Goran Ivanovic Group, has been successfully packing venues throughout the country since their inception in 2005. Praised for their highly dynamic classical and jazz aesthetics infused with Balkan melodies, Eastern Blok maintains a timeless sound and virtuosic approach. On Saturday, May 3, Eastern Blok will be performing a live concert in The Cave at the Serbian Cultural and Arts Center St. Sava. The concert begins at 10 PM. The price of admission is $8.

Eastern Blok is guitar virtuoso Goran Ivanovic, Doug Rosenberg on saxophone and flute, Matthew Ulery on bass, and Michael Caskey, a five-time Detroit Music Award and Downbeat Magazine Award winner, on drums. Eastern Blok has toured extensively throughout the United States, filling venues wherever they go. They have appeared on NPR and headlined the Chicago World Music Festival in 2007.
